Tag! I'm it.

1. This is my refrigerator. I love my new black fridge because it doesn't show dirt and hard water stains like my old, white one did. I retired the old, white one to the garage. Everyone needs a garage fridge.

2. This is my bed, and it is not part of the tag, but I just had to tell y'all a story. When my mother was here helping me move, she told me that I needed a new bed spread. She had bought my last one for me when we still lived in Utah, and y'all know that was a while ago. So we went to Ikea, but saw nothing we liked. On the way home Mama told me to look for a Bed, Bath, and Beyond because she had a coupon. Lo and behold we found one. We went in and they had this comforter set marked down on clearance for $29.99. We thought that was a great deal, so we snatched it up and took it to the register. When the cashier scanned it, she told us it was actually marked down to $9.99. Then my mother used her coupon. So, our total came to $8.41. We couldn't believe it. It just made our day. Don't you just love clearance sales? And doesn't it match my headboard perfectly? Well done, Mama. Sorry for the tangent, y'all.

3. Another thing about the comforter set. It also just happened to match the pillow cases and runner that my mother had sent me from Cambodia.

4. These are my favorite shoes. I believe that every girl should invest in a nice $100-200 pair of black boots every few years. My last ones were ENZOs and I wore them from before I was dating Bryant until well after Sibley was born. Finally, when they wore slap out, I got these. I have already had these for a couple of years, and they still look brand new, don't they? They're Bandolinos. I really miss shopping at Parisian. Anyway, I like the heels because they make me taller. Y'all know I need to be taller.

5. This is my closet. I like that I have shelving for all the little extra stuff that has nowhere else to go.

6. This is my laundry room. I like that it has cabinets. One day I do hope to have a laundry room with a sink. I haven't had one since Hilltop. I think (in addition to the garage fridge) everyone needs a laundry sink.

7. This is me. I am not skinny or cute these days. Thank y'all for loving me anyway. What can I say? It has been a rough year. I guess I should just be happy to be here. And I am. I'm definitely glad to be alive and off antibiotics! Whooooo Hooooo!

8. This is the girl's bathroom. I believe in decorating children's spaces with their own art. And y'all are lucky I didn't take a picture of the toilet, because (as usual) it wasn't flushed.

9. This is my new kitchen. I know it is messy in this picture, but can I just say how much I love it?! It has so much cabinet and pantry space and I like having black and stainless appliances. I made goulash tonight and was too tired after working all day to clean it up. I like to use leftover ingredients for one meal for ideas for another meal. In this case I had leftover Mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses from grilling out pizzas Friday night. So, I baked them with a little ground beef (browned with onion and garlic), macaroni noodles, diced tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, sour cream, and eggs, threw a salad together, and ended up with some good goulash like my Mama used to make. My family loved it. Mama, you are my inspiration in so many ways everyday.
10. My ideal vacation is the Gulf Coast or the Caribbean. I need a warm beach. Bryant wants to cruise to Alaska, but that does not sound like a vacation to me. How can I lounge by the pool when there isn't one?
Okay, I am tagging Melissa and Alaina. Thanks Donna! That was fun. Sorry I didn't participate when you tagged me earlier, Amanda, but I just was not yet up to it at the time.

A Fun-Filled Bakersfield Trip

Bryant's brother's family lives in Bakersfield, CA. Some people like to knock Bakersfield, but I think most of the people who say bad things about Bakersfield are people who haven't been there. I guess people compare it to other California towns, like San Diego and L.A., and maybe base their opinions on that comparison. I, personally, really like Bakersfield. It has nice old homes on treelined streets and lots of pretty farms to see. The mountains just south of Bakersfield are green and rocky, and dotted with the occasional cattle ranch. It is really beautiful scenery. On a sidenote, I love Bolthouse Farms products, and did you know they were based in Bakersfield?

Anyway, Josh and Melissa took us to a really cute Fall Festival at a place called Murray Family Farms, and the kids just loved it. They had a cute hog named Wilbur and some really tame roosters in the petting zoo, which really suprised me. I must say that California roosters are much nicer and more mellow than any Alabama rooster we ever had at my house. Maybe they smoke the legalized marijuana, solely for medical purposes, of course. Anyway, we always have a great time with the Josh Slade family. Thanks again for a fun vacation! We love y'all!

Sibley lost her first teeth!

As y'all know from an earlier post, Sibley had a couple of loose teeth. On Sunday at church, I looked into her mouth and saw that the permanent tooth was already out of the gums behind one of her loose teeth. I decided then and there that that thing had to come out. So, that afternoon Bryant pulled both of the loose teeth. All he had to do was push one of them and it just fell out onto her tongue. So she got $2 from the toothfairy and $2 for sleeping in her own bed for several nights in a row. Her sweet big sister also gave her $1 for loosing her teeth. Not to worry if you can't get a loan from the bank anymore with the credit crunch; Just come on over and Sibley can loan you some money.

Fall Break Campout

We have promised our girls since we moved here, to Arizona, that if we got a house with a grassy yard, they could camp out in it. (Our last house had a rock yard with a pool, which was wonderful in the summer, but not so great in the winter.) So, for fall break, they had a sleepover and camped out with their buddies. Now, if I can just get them to clean it all up.

Mismatch Day 2008

My girls really outdid themselves this year for Mismatch Day at school. The best part is that they didn't want to change clothes for our shopping trip to San Tan Mall afterwards. And, even better, the Nelson kids went with us, and they didn't want to change their clothes either.

The T-shirt

Many of you may recall earlier photos of my mother (uncharacteristically) in a pie eating contest. Bryant had a brilliant idea - to have one of the infamous photos printed on a T-shirt and wear it next time we saw her. So, this is what happened when we picked her up. She was a good sport. She laughed so hard she cried.

We're moving...

We got the keys to our new house yesterday and have been furiously moving ever since. Thanks to those of you who have helped so far. My mother is flying in tomorrow to help me too, and we are so happy to have her. I wanted to give everyone an explanation as to why I won't be updating my blog for a while. I know you will be waiting on pins and needles until I enter again! I'm just so darn interesting!
